Konniption Fit to release full length CD January 30

Konniptionfit00202a

The
long awaited and much anticipated official CD release of Detroit’s own
Konniption Fit, has been scheduled for January 30, 2010 with a
fun-packed line-up at TNT’s. The night will include not only great
music from a variety of bands, but also a number of exciting giveaway
and raffle items from Coffin Case, one of Konniption Fit’s endorsement
companies.

Konniption Fit’s “Ballistic”, produced by
Andy Patalan at The Loft studios in Saline Michigan, features 12 songs
of fun, upbeat Pop Punk sharpened to a razors edge with Modern Rock.
Stylistically, the songs on “Ballistic” run the gamut of styles and
influences, from the sounds of a riveting racehorse riot to moments of
harmonic texture and melodicism, all coming together as a whole which
can only be described as uniquely Konniption Fit. Catchy, lush
harmonies and melodies are contrasted with the roar of Marshall-driven
guitars, sledgehammer drums and tight, pulsing bass lines, causing the
listener to want to sing along and slam dance all at the same time.

Konniption
Fit is a punk/pop/rock band with a heavier edge, hailing from Detroit,
MI. Their sound covers many sonic territories, from crunchy ear candy
to rebellious moments of anarchy, yet all mixes cohesively into one
band. Their goal? To write music with a raw, rebellious attitude, play
music with conviction, and devastate the stage with an onslaught of
catchy melodies, high energy performances, and an unforgettable show.
Konniption Fit is brimming with hook-laden, pop punk bliss contrasted
with guitar-driven modern rock, creating a fresh sound with
mass-crossover appeal. A bright light emerging from Motor City, this is
a band that isn’t afraid to step outside the darker Detroit music “box”
and tap into diverse influences.

While working hard to
promote their live show, Konniption Fit has had the opportunity to play
some of Detroit’s largest and best venues, including the Royal Oak
Music Theater, St Andrews Hall, The Crofoot and The Emerald Theater.
Through hard work, they’ve garnered stage time with national recording
acts such as Days of the New, Taproot, Sponge, Ashes of Soma, WWE Diva
Christy Hemme, The Luchagors (featuring Lita from WWE), The Muggs
(“Greatest American Band” finalists), Frequency 54 and Crud to name a
few. Recently, the band just finished up their second Midwest tour,
hitting cities such as Chicago, Fort Wayne, Pittsburgh, Toledo,
Cincinnati and more.

Running with Panthers at Small’s Bar – Hamtramck Blowout

I'm going to guess that many who may stumble on this blog will have no idea what Hamtramck Blowout is. In fact, you probably have never heard of Hamtramck.

What rock have y'all been living under? I recently saw a list on AOL along the lines of "Fastest Dying Cities in America"
and guess who made the top 10? That's right, Hamtramck is number 7
according to Forbes. Or, "Hammy," once you get to be on a first name
basis with her and all.
So anyway, this city on the edge of Detroit is a Polish neighborhood of
bakeries and discount shopping by day, and the stomping grounds of
Detroit musical bohemians by night. So what better place to have the
largest music festival in the country, with 275 bands playing in four
days?

Wait…make that four nights. Just under 300 bands playing
between the hours of 9pm-1am on those four nights. Pretty impressive,
eh? Does that sound like a dying city to you?

As you can imagine, this took place over many venues, but most
within close enough proximity for walking. Doing my first Hammy Blowout
was like a Detroit music sampler platter, and I would shoot 10-15
minutes of a band's set, then move to another venue. With a few
exceptions, where I lingered a bit longer.

Running with Panthers (at Small's Bar) was one of those exceptions.

Running with Panthers is not breaking new musical ground. They are not challenging the accepted conventions of rock music. They're simply a bar band who rocks out on stage and puts on a good show. They are obviously having fun, and that's contagious.

And that's kind of the point. Not taking yourself so damn seriously — it's rock and roll for chrissakes.

Which brings me to why I chose to start blogging Hamtramck Blowout with this particular band. Below I've reposted a video from their site…MTV Cribs, "Running with Panthers" style.

Humor is a good thing, even in rock and roll. Especially in rock and roll.

PS. FUCK YOU Forbes magazine, with your "dying cities" bullshit.

Another example of the sorry ass state of “rock and roll”

Does anyone out there just care about making great music more than being "rock stars?" Of course, yes, some do, hence this particular blog. But really, this takes the cake.

I'm all  about trying to be successful and grooming an image, but, call me old fashioned…seems to me like groupies should be earned. I mean, damn, some things in rock and roll must be kept sacred, don't you think?

Black Light Burns @ The Majestic Theater, Detroit

I am the first to admit I'm terrible at keeping up with more commercial, mainstream music. So even though this band has a song on the latest Underworld movie soundtrack and is opening for Combichrist, I had not heard of them before this show.

I love the old school "goth" favorites like The Cure, Joy Division, Bauhaus and the Sisters of Mercy. I love the movie "The Crow."

But when Black Light Burns took the stage in makeup, bassist Jr's was very reminiscent of a Brandon Lee look, and I was annoyed. My expectations were lowered to anticipation of gothy cliches and emo-ness. I may have been shooting with my camera, but inside, I was figuratively crossing my arms and tapping my foot. Especially when they launched into a cover of the Sisters "My Lucretia."

Sacrilege!

I didn't like the makeup. I still don't. But, I have to say, Black Light Burns is a nice blend of electro rock with roots in old school goth. Their "Lucretia" cover paled in comparison to the original, but honestly, whose wouldn't? I found their set growing on me, despite my prejudice against the Crow-ish makeup of the bassist and the outright strange makeup and crazy moustache of vocalist Wes Borland (of Limp Bizkit) — the songs and the band's performance are high energy but with a bit if a dark edge.

Vocalist Wes Borland worked the crowd and drenched them, throwing more water than he drank. Guitarist Nick Annis (NOT the folk singer, thank you) was mesmerizing me with that crazy ass mane of hair of his.

Okay, I admit they put in a respectable "Lucretia" cover. And I particularly liked the Underworld track "I Want You To."

Black Light Burns walks a fine line bewteen techno electro pop and old school goth. It's rather catchy I must say. And not a bit emo.

Thank god.
